PCBA protection

Washing, plasma treatments, coating, potting and Parylene in a sterile room to protect boards intended for critical environments.

Electronic board protection is a decisive stage in ensuring long-term reliability, especially when miniaturization, humidity, dust, chemicals, vibrations or extreme environments can compromise the product. SCEN integrates washing, plasma, coating, potting and Parylene in a sterile room.

At SCEN, protection stages are performed in a sterile room, a controlled environment that reduces the risk of contamination during washing, coating, potting and special treatments. The absence of dust and particles promotes more uniform and durable protection, especially for boards intended for applications where operational continuity, insulation and reliability are critical requirements.

Before protective coatings are applied, electronic boards are washed to remove process residues, dust and contaminants. The automatic line enables washing and drying with controlled parameters, using solvents, water or ultrasound depending on the product. When ultra-fine cleaning and greater material adhesion are required, SCEN uses selective, safe and residue-free plasma treatments, ideal for high-precision electronics.

Coating protects boards from humidity, dust, chemicals and environmental stress through a thin, uniform protective layer. SCEN applies conformal coating over the entire board surface or selective coating only on the most sensitive areas, providing targeted protection without adding unnecessary weight to the device.

For critical applications, SCEN can use Parylene, an ultra-thin polymer coating deposited in vapor phase and under vacuum. This process makes it possible to obtain a conformal, uniform and pinhole-free film, capable of reaching complex geometries and areas that are difficult to protect with traditional coatings.

Thanks to its electrical insulation properties, barrier against humidity and corrosive agents, thermal stability, hydrophobicity, low outgassing and biocompatibility, Parylene is suitable for high-reliability applications in space, aerospace, medical, defense, applied research and critical environments.

Why Parylene for critical applications

  • Ultra-thin, uniform and conformal coating
  • Vapor phase and vacuum deposition
  • Protection even on complex geometries and miniaturized components
  • Pinhole-free film with no bubbles or localized build-up
  • Electrical insulation and protection from humidity, corrosion and contaminants
  • Low outgassing, useful for space and vacuum applications
  • Biocompatibility for medical applications, including implantable applications when required by the project
  • Thermal stability and protection in extreme environments
  • Optical transparency and low surface friction

The suitability of the treatment is assessed according to technical specifications, materials, product geometry, application sector and required qualification requirements.

Potting is indicated when the board or module must operate under particularly severe conditions. The board is encapsulated in insulating resins or gels which, once solidified, create a robust barrier against impacts, vibrations, infiltrations and external agents. It is a suitable solution for aerospace, defense, transportation, industrial and critical environment applications, where mechanical and electrical protection must remain stable over time.
